[su_quote] Sure thing. If it meant Afua could get food for his family and more orange soda, he would believe in anything Iniabasi wanted him to believe in. Allah, Jesus, Buddha. Hell, Afua would believe that Iniabasi himself was a god if it meant more food.[/su_quote]
[su_heading size=18]Introduction[/su_heading]
Hail Warning is written by Brett Arquette. It is the second book in the Marshall Hail series and follows Operation Hail Storm (read my review here).
The Hail series are techno-thrillers that are heavy on the tech. The review of Operation Hail Storm has more information about the series for those new to it.

[su_heading size=18]Recommendation[/su_heading]
Hail Warning is a great follow up to Operation Hail Storm. It has taken all the elements that made the earlier book good and discarded those that were holding it back.
Character development is still as good as before. We get to see a little bit more of the President, CIA chief and others in the US government. The “villain” also gets his back story and his motivations are explained well. In addition, the Hail proton team becomes part of the plot which makes his organization seem bigger. So does a character that we saw in the earlier book (see the spoiler section to find out who it is).
This time around, the pacing is much better and I found this book to be riveting from page 1. The multiple timelines are handled well and none of the threads palled.
The Hail series is very good at handling the spectre of terrorism with near zero racism and Islamophobia. Brett Arquette’s treatment of Boko Haram and the motivations of the people joining it is very nuanced. Barring a few, who are psychopaths or megalomaniacs, the vast majority of people get into this due to a lack of opportunity to better themselves or their families.

I am still waiting for Hail to bring down the CIA director. How does Pepper keep getting away with it?
The downed pilot, Nolan, joins Hail’s crew. And surprise surprise, he brings the macho element to the team.
I found Afua to be one of the best villainous characters I have read. He is one of those characters who, while we loathe what they do, we can understand why they do it.
